Hubert Schmalix

*1952   lives and works in Vienna and Los Angeles

He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna 1971-76. In the 1980s he used expressive works to explore the limits of painting. He produces still lifes, portraits, life painting and landscapes of very intense colours. Female nudes become more important, inspired by Asian colour woodcuts.

Discover the almost 1,200 works in our constantly growing collection in our online database. In the future, the collection will be expanded primarily through the purchases of current contemporary art associated with the art prizes. However, the jury will also recommend annual purchases to the Board of Directors to supplement the existing holdings of recent Tyrolean art history.
